Day Care Service

Day Care Service

ASK Day Centre situated in a new facility that has been built, attached to the ASK Care Head Office in Argyle Road, Ilford.

This light and spacious facility is on one floor, with ramped access from the street.  There is a laminate floor covering for the activity areas to enable wheelchairs to be moved safely, and in the bathroom and toilet areas there is non-slip waterproof flooring.

Tables are designed to allow wheelchairs to fit underneath, and yet remain sturdy enough to allow constant use, their plastic construction prevents clients from being harmed by splinters or glass, and they are easily movable to accommodate the different activities on offer.

Within the Day Centre is a fully accessible bathroom with hoist and shower trolley, and two other toilets are available for use, and clients can elect to avail themselves of the showering facility should they wish to at an additional cost.

The garden has been landscaped to allow clients to access it on foot or in their wheelchairs, with grass and shrubs to add colour.  There is also an area set aside for clients to grow their own plants.

Activities are varied and designed to be enjoyed by all clients, although it is recognized that their level of participation will vary depending on their level of disability.  The program is on a 4-week rotation, and even when outings are planned, the in-house program continues so that any clients who do not wish to take part in the outings are not discriminated against.

ASK Day Centre welcomes clients from all ethnicities, with a range of needs, and we have exercise equipment to support those clients who wish to work towards increasing their functional abilities in terms of standing, walking and balance as well as a range of activities to improve gross and fine motor skills as well as hand-to-eye co-ordination, and cognitive and language skills.

ASK Day Centre is also situated near to Ilford Town Centre, so that clients can access the  Service independently, being brought by their family, or by taxi or dial-a-ride, or use the transport provided by ASK Day Centre, at an additional cost.

Staffing levels are set for each client group to ensure appropriate support for their needs, including support for the midday meal which is cooked daily on the premises.  Carers are trained according to the needs of the client group, including Acquired Brain Injury, Dementia, Epilepsy, Autism, Mental Health Awareness and Maketon and PECS.

For those clients that need one-to-one support or come with their own carer, there is additional support included in the costing to enable them to have support of an additional carer for toilet needs, including use of the hoist by two carers.

Each client attending ASK Day Centre will have a personalized care plan based on the Outcome Stars designed by Triangle and other reputable bodies such as Primary Care Trusts and the Mental Health Forum.

These outcome based care plans will be regularly reviewed to ensure that the client and the carers supporting them are continually working towards their stated outcomes (including soft outcomes) on the relevant star and to make changes to the care plan if any deviation or lack of progress is found.   This person-centred approach will be inclusive of documentation detailing their activities whilst at the Day Centre, their participation and enjoyment.
